Iambus

This is the flower of the Iambus tree. The flower is very bright and the ground around the tree gets to be all bright pink as well. I photographed the tree and flowers in Pará, Brazil.

Snapdragon

There is a beautiful garden close to my house, and early in the morning we can always see an old couple working on it. Because I know I am going to miss this place so much, I finally went there and photographed some of the flowers. This flower is called snapdragon.

I photographed this flower in the coastal Monterey. The Hottentot fog was introduced to California as a ground stabilizing plant. The flower is yellow and ages to light pink.

Scarlet Pimpernel

This flower is tiny! The diameter across the petals is about 6mm. I spotted it in the backyard. The flower is most famous for being the title of an adventure novel, The Scarlet Pimpernel.

Azalea

This flower is very beautiful, even more by the side of a gigantic Redwood tree. The flower is trumpet shaped and marked with bright yellow spots. I photographed it at Big Basin Redwoods State Park.

Milk Thistle

I took this picture at Pomponio State Beach. All parts of this flower are edible. Milk thistle is used in the treatment of liver and gallbladder diseases, jaundice, cirrhosis, hepatitis and poisoning. Roasted milk thistle seeds can be used as coffee substitute.

Dogwood

I photographed this flower at Sequoia National Park. I spent the weekend looking for flowers and birds to photograph, and when we were heading out of the park I spotted a striking tree blooming.

Blue Eyed Daisy

I spotted these flowers while walking around the Willow Glen neighborhood. They are known as African daisy, South African daisy, Cape daisy and Blue-eyed daisy. They look like they were colored with metallic paint.

Blue Eyed Grass

I went hiking with my son at RANCHO SANTO ANTONIO and photographed these beautiful little flowers. There were wildflowers all over the meadows, and a clear view of Mt. Tamalpis to the north and Mt. Hamilton to the east. The flower has a yellow “eye” in the center.

Cherry Blossom

Yoshino cherry is a graceful flowering cherry tree with lovely pale pink to white blossoms. There are also other varieties of cherry trees with dark pink, yellow or green blossoms. I photographed these blossoms close to the beautiful San Pablo Bay.

Peach Blossom

It has been fun to watch our peach tree grow. We got it 8 years ago and every spring it blossoms gracefully. It is so pink and bright at this moment. We enjoyed large beautiful juicy peaches for the last two summers.

It’s Sourgrass season in the bay area. I can see it all over gardens in the neighborhood. It is considered invasive, but I find it attractive, and the stem and flower are edible.

Ranunculus

I got Ranunculus flowers last weekend at California Avenue Farmers' Market. Their common name is Persian buttercup. It was fun to learn about so many other flowers that I've been photographing, but had no idea of their names. These flowers are bright and gorgeous. I got pink and purple flowers for the backyard.

Checkerbloom

This last weekend we went to CHINA CAMP STATE PARK. Hiking with the kids and getting them to look for the flowers and birds was superb. One of my daughters spotted these pink flowers. They are called checkerbloom. They are so beautiful and exquisite.

I photographed the pear blossoms in a street in Palo Alto. The street looks amazing right now, all the trees in blossom. The street is so quiet and so beautiful. The aroma is not so great, but the flowers are very delicate. Gorgeous.

Dahlia comes in various colors, sizes and shapes. I have photographed red, yellow, orange and pink dhalias. Flower shapes include daisy-like single types and fully double types with intermediate forms such as collarettes and anemone types. Dahlia is the national flower of Mexico.

Mallow

This is the flower of the Tree Mallow, a shrubby plant. I photographed it last Saturday at the bay when going to a walk with my son; the flower looks like the hibiscus flower.

Water Lily

I photographed this Water Lily in Austin. It was raining a little and then the sun came out for a few minutes. The shape of the flower is so graceful and getting the mirror like reflection in the water was great. The leaves of the plant are round shaped and float on the water’s surface.

Hortensias or Hydrangeas have different sizes, shapes and varieties. It has been ten years since my father's death and I iherented his love of flowers. I photographed these hortensias this last Sunday thinking of him. It was late in the afternoon and the light was beautiful.

Butterfly Iris

I photographed this flower this last Fall. These flowers live only one day! The Butterfly Iris, an iris relative, is native to South Africa. The white flowers marked with yellow and purple-blue burst from stalks amid stiff, iris-like foliage.

Gerbera

I have a few pots of Gerbera daisies at my backyard. I followed one little flower growing. Gerbera Daisy flowers have bright and bold colors: red, orange, yellow, white, cream, purple and pink. They also grow in many sizes including miniature varieties, single-flowered or double-flowered, and spider varieties.

Source Magnolia

We have one Saucer Magnolia tree at our front yard. I am always amazed by these flowers. The tree remains bare all winter long. In spring, huge flowers bloom. The tree leafs out after blooming. Foliage persists well through summer, turning yellow and brown in fall before dropping.
